The Grand World Woof Tour
Oscar Lefson is a very special 7 year old boy who is about to go on the journey of a lifetime. He will be travelling to 33 countries on five continents over the next five months with his loving mother Joanne Lefson. Of course, this doesn't exactly sound like something extraordinary - until you hear that Oscar is in fact a four legged seven year old (in other words he's a lovable dog).
Oscar was adopted by Joanne (an actual person) from the SPCA over 5 years ago and even won the SPCA Mutt of the Year award in 2004. Oscar and Joanne will be leaving Cape Town, South Africa on Saturday and embarking on their World Woof Tour, a tour created to raise awareness about why it's so awesome to adopt a dog from animal shelters and also to promote animal sterilisation. First though, they will be making an appearance at this years Mutt of the Year awards at Camps Bay High School on Saturday morning. In other words, if you can, head on over to those awards this Saturday and give Oscar a fantastic send off!
The first stop on the tour will be Gaborone, Botswana. From there they will go to countries such as Malaysia, Brazil, Switzerland and the United States where Oscar will become a bit of a daredevil and get a chance to do things such as surfing or hang gliding. Of course, Joanne says that if Oscar's not comfortable with something, those plans will change.
The tour will end on October 4, World Animal Day, when Oscar and Joanne return home to Cape Town.
If you want to support Oscar on his world tour, visit http://www.worldwooftour.com where you can find out if he's going to be in your neighbourhood. On the website you can also make donations to the cause (and get an awesome Oscar plush toy or cap), or, you can take the "Pledge of Pooch Allegiance" to Oscar.
Included below is a video that explains the tour and the reasons behind it in more detail, but I must warn you, it can be quite heart breaking if you are a dog lover. It certainly made me want to rush home and hug my two mutts.
