Cue Gay Penguins

Sometimes, on my high horse and after a snoop around the worldwide web, I come galloping back wondering if the whole world has gone mad. A rhetorical question, I know but one that begs a concrete answer don't you think? So after extensive research, brainstorming and juicing I have finally come up with the solid proof I need to answer my own question and perhaps even start a political party.

What's the proof? It all started in a German Zoo that has recently reported that two homosexual Humboldt (what's in a name? Google Humboldt) penguins have successfully hatched an egg that was rejected by its parents and the two are now happily raising their adopted chick.

Wow.

That's pretty heart warming and very now but I'm sure it'll have animal rights groups and gay rights activists up in arms. Yes, these gay penguins have the right to adopt just like any other parent but morally...how will they explain to their chick how she came about? If not a union between a male and female penguin then what? A gift from the Easter Bunny (Stocks don't deliver eggs, see section B4.1 for the small print)? My mind is working overtime as to what Penguin School will be like for Penny Penguin and her two daddies.

Most aren't as concerned as I about the controversy and perhaps discrimination this little chick will suffer at the hands of the rest of the penguin colony. Zoo keepers claim that the homosexual penguins are behaving just as a heterosexual couple would when there's offspring added to the mix. But the penguins aren't alone apparently, they belong to a six strong gay penguin community. Their sexuality was confirmed after the introduction of female Swedish penguins failed to "cure" them. And those Swedish dames are eye candy so these boys must really be gay. Another couple in the group are looking at adopting a little chick from China.

"Homosexuality is perfectly normal in the animal kingdom," zoo officials said. Apparently, penguins and other animals can couple up without having the instinct to reproduce. That's probably part of the reason why this species is under threat of extinction. That, and the fact that the anchovies off the South American coast have dwindled.

So now I think that's solid proof enough. It's official, the world has either gone mad or is only now working its way back to sanity. Either way, we're in for a bumpy road ahead. Enjoy the ride!
