A Killer Mistake

Seaworld, the place where families can go and experience the joy of Killer Whales putting on a show instead of roaming free in their natural habitat. Yes, I'm being sarcastic and No, I'm not a PETA nut, however I am an animal lover. The big news today is the trainer that was recently killed by one of the Whales just before a show.

Set the scene.....she's standing in her wetsuit, crowds are excited and shouting, she's just finished explaining the wacky fun that will take place when a killer whale leaps out of the water, grabs her and starts playing with her like a rag doll. A horrified crowd looks on as the woman is killed. When will we learn? These are wild animals, not puppies that can be trained. This, of course, is not the first attack to happen, it's happened a few times before. Some have been lucky and escaped, others have been drowned and yet the show goes on. This is one of those situations when the show should be shut down.

I remember watching the movie Free Willy when I was very young and I found it so incredibly sad and there is one scene that will always stick in my mind. Whatever that kid's name was, standing proud as Willy jumped over him into the ocean, to his freedom. Let's take a page out of Willy's book, set them free! They are not meant to be in captivity, they are not meant to entertain us, it's cruel. And human beings are clearly being targeted and killed because of their careless actions, Free Willy! or suffer the consequences....
