Diamonds and Flowers
Last week we spoke about the Cullinan mine’s record breaking blue diamond. Well there’s been some further developments after it was sold at auction – it has had a name change.
The diamond was bought for a record breaking ZAR80m by a Hong Kong collector named Joseph Lau Luen-Hung. Mr Lau has now changed the name of the diamond to “Star of Josephine”. I have to say that is much better than the “Cullinan blue diamond”.
Then in other news, the Chelsea Flower Show just recently finished up in London. While that is an event in of itself, the real news is that Kirstenbosch gardens has managed to scoop its 30th gold medal at the prestigious show. The medal was also the 17th for the designers of this year’s entry, David Davidson and Raymond Hudson.
The exhibit they created included material from Kirstenbosch and from the Hantam, Lowveld and Walter Sisulu national botanical gardens. The designers said it showed some of what made South Africa the third most biologically diverse country in the world.
Since some of us weren’t able to actually be at the show, the exhibit will be recreated sometime later this year on home ground so that us South Africans can share in the pride.
