Man pays under $4 for brand new car

The Cape Argus, one of Cape Town’s local daily newspapers recently ran the “Amazing Argus Auction”. During this auction Cape Argus readers had to use an SMS bidding system to compete for a range of prizes. The big winner, Abduraof Dawood, walked away with a brand-new Tata Indica which he paid a grand total of R28,77 for…or, $3,33.

Of course Dawood is a bit shocked by the news and says it’s only starting to sink in now that he’s won. Honestly, I would be rather shocked too. Dawood was competing against 1 079 other people who had submitted over 18000 bids for the car. Now the real question is, how did he win with a bid that low with that many bids? Well, the Amazing Argus Auction operates a bit differently from your standard auction. The idea of auction is to try and get the lowest unique bid – obviously Dawood managed that.

Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time he’s won a prize through the Auction. Just last year he walked away with an 80cm LCD television which he paid a whole R6,26 for.

It really seems as though Dawood has the magic touch!
