This Taxi is Made for Walking

Technology never ceases to amaze me. More than that, contrary to popular belief, technology isn't 'digital stuff,' it is in fact the combination of people, processes and the equipment necessary for those people to carry out those processes. So essentially, technology involves all three components as a whole. A prime example of which is a story of true technology from Tokyo, Japan.

Happinet Toys have produced a pedometer that not only encourages walking by calculating how many calories you'll burn but also calculates how much money you'll save on taxi fair by walking.

The pedometer retails for about $23. It starts off reading a number of $7.10, which is the average fair for most cab fairs and covers the first 2 kilometers. The Taxi Walker as its called is proving popular for people from all walks of life. Now they can lose weight and save money and be environmentally friendly all at once. Sounds like the start of evolution of human kind.

They also seem to have a bit of novelty attached. The Taxi Walker is available in a number of colours but the most popular is the yellow with a black and white checker pattern around it - a resemblance of what real taxi's look like. Available in Japan only for now, I'm pretty certain that it will spark a trend in other walking cities around the world. Stumble Delicious Technorati Twitter Facebook
