The Big Deal

Ever since a story circulated of an obese man sat across two seats on an airplane, there has been talk of charging heavies double to fly. Reminds me of the 'why a chicken can't fly' story - the whole your body outweighs the power of your wings.

Most recently, a Air France KLM said that in the near future, if you can't squeeze yourself in the 43 - 44 cm seats - you might just have to pay for two seats. Now there isn't really a throwback to primary school playground - no one is being 'nasty' but there are safety regulations to follow and if you're a notorious B.I.G than - you're a hazard. In short.

Paying for two seats up front also ensures that the seats are next to each other. The airline did say that if the plane wasn't full - overweight passengers will get a refund on the second seat.

So at least they were trying to be polite? Now, I hear what they're saying about safety regulations and fairness. I have been seated next to an obese man on a flight from Washington to LA and it wasn't very comfortable. Even for the other passengers trying to avoid his eyes. But obesity isn't the only issue. I say - if they want the practise of charging for two seats for overweight passengers than women with children will have to pay full airfare for children under the age of two as well.

At the moment they fly for free but I have personally been inconvenienced several times because of a mommy needing three seats to spread out while her baby sleeps. I don't care if her baby sleeps, I don't care if she sleeps. I care if I sleep and squashed between grandparents to the parasite doesn't make for a good nights' rest. They (mothers) aren't entitled to extra seats unless they have paid for them in full. Let's start a viral mail about that and see how far it gets. And if you're a mommy hero wanting to defend their position - don't. Just like you don't care that I don't have children...I don't care that you do. Pay for two.
